Thanks for clearing that up. This Paul Potts fellow sure has talent and
it was nice to see the audience appreciating it. Sad to say, I don't
think Americans would react the same.

From what I've heard he has become the most popular YouTube download ever,
so it looks like America is taking to him just as enthusiastically as we
are over this side of the pond.

I looked him up on YouTube myself last night as I missed his final
performance. The number of comments was quite staggering and the vast
majority of them were very positive. Of course there were a few idiots
giving him a hard time because of his bad teeth and a few others accusing
him of being a fake because he has had professional lessons but there will
always be a small, bitter minority that resent someone else getting a
break. I think most people, of any nationality, get a buzz out of seeing
an underdog succeed and this guy certainly ticks all the boxes. Good luck
to him.

His teeth were apparently damaged during a motorbike accident and he
hasn't been able to afford to get them fixed - we have free dental care
over here but it doesn't extend to cosmetic dentistry. He has had lessons,
but I don't think that has a bearing on anything. Most of the acts in the
show were trained or had some sort of experience but they were still just
amateurs looking to get a break.
