Afternoon games at the local pool parlor are $1 antes, bets 1,2.

The game is mostly old farts who have been playing the crap games for
decades, or their kids.

Follow the Queen.
7-stud, and Queens are wild, you pay $2 for it when it hits. All cards of
the denomination following the Q are wild, at least until another Queen
hits, in which case the following card is wild. Unless the last card dealt
up is a Q, in which case there is no second wild card.

Spit.
7-stud and after the pockets are dealt a card is turned up in the middle.
That denomination is wild. Sometimes it is two spits with the second
comingafter all cards have been dealt. Both spits are wild.

Paducah.
Played a variety of ways, the base being you are dealt 4 and can draw 3 time,
usually however many you want. Then you can buy a card to replace one of
yours for a buck. Then 2-3 twists in a row where you can buy another card
without replacement; all who buy the twist share it. Winner is low hand with
a card in every suit.

Criss-Cross.
Six for low, flush for high qualifiers usually. Four-six cards dealt to
you, then a draw, then five cards dealt down in the form of a cross. Outside
cards in a circle are turned up. Before the center card is turned you can
buy a card usually. You can use either the row or the column in your hand.

Bingo.
Same as Criss-Cross but 9x9 cards in the center. You can use any row, column
or diagonal. Six and flush usually to qualify.

7-27 black.
Since it is rarely red that is dealt one wonders. The cards down and roll
one. Individuals get to hit or not hit. Aces are 1 or 11, paint 1/2, others
by the pips. Hand with black cards summing closest to 7 but not over get
half the pot. hand closest to 27 but not over get half the pot. Can be MANY
rounds of betting what with all the red cards that can be dealt. (Can skip a
hit and take one later.)

2-21 black.
Same as 7-27, but hand closest and not over 2 gets half. Hand closest to 21
and not over gets half.

Now and then Omaha 8 is dealt, with 4-7 pocket cards.

Innyhoo, that *** is all that is available to me in my current price
range.

Is it complete idiocy to imagine that game can be beat consistently, even
not counting the $2/hr cards fee/

I play in a weekly game with many of the games you've described, and a few
others you haven't.  Been in the game 15 years.  Easily the most beatable game
I've ever played in, if you know what you're doing.  Most players just play
showdown poker with all the variations, twists, wilds, etc.  If you have any
clue as to hand value and what to play and what your opponents have, you'll kill
the game.  If the games are played with a declare, it's even better.  My only
problem is trying not to win too much.  My winning sessions outnumber losing
sessions easily 10 to 1.
