Re: The rest did me good

Took a couple of nights off my live poker lark, and the change did me good.
Although I lost 380 last night, I felt that most of my decisions were correct.
Tonight was slightly better, up about 200. My biggest pot (+700) came from that
worse of hands, 72 off.

Was in the BB, UTG made it 6 to play, 4 callers. So I was risking 4 to win 32,
great expressed odds, plus fantasic implied odds. Even then I only called
because ny calling closes the betting.

Flop was a great 237, 2 spades. I let out with a pot bet, UTg called, and
everyone folded. 118 in the pot.

Turn was a scary looking T of spades. I checked, and UTG led out with a pot bet
of 118. Looks very much like a semi-bluff to me, as this player likes to slow
play the nuts a little. I would have worried a little more if he checked, or
led out for an half pot bet. I read him for an overpair with a spade with the
big bet. I moved in for 300 in total, after after thinking for a while, he
called and showed QQ with a spade. River thankfully was a brick, and I took
down a +700 pot with my 27 off...:-)

Nothing exciting happened after this hand, took down some small pots, but
nothing special.

Made what I considered to be a fantastic laydown, probably one of my best ever.
Luckily these players are so predictable. This preceding hand gave me the extra
information I needed for the fold.

A weak-loose player (loose preflop, but weak and loose post flop unless he had
the nuts, or close to it. He would bet his TP from any position, but would only
check-call if his flop bet was called unless he hit his kicker, although he will
check-call to the death with TP decent kicker.) limp-called a button raise, I
was in the BB with JQ and called before him.

Flop came AT6, all clubs. I had the Q of clubs. I decided to check and gauge
the action out there. Cheked to weak-loose player, who led out with a 1/2
pot bet of 15, buton folded and I called, 3 players behind me also folded. Turn
was a blank rag, I checked, and weak-loose player bet 30, giving me the odds to
draw to bust his small flush, which was what I had him on. River was a blank, I
checked, and he checked after me. He showed what I expected him to have 57
clubs, a small flush.

The next hand was what made my night, even though I had lost with aces to rags.
I had aces at the button. 4 limpers to me, I raised pot to 15. 2 callers,
including the weak-llose guy in late MP. About 60 in the pot, 3 players.

Flop came 346, rainbow. Checked to weak-loose guy, who led out with 15, I
called, and the other player folded. Turn was an innocent looking T, no flush
draw possible. Weak-loose guy led out for 30. This told me that he had got
lucky with the flop playing rags, at least 2 pairs, probably even a straight. I
mucked in disgust, not showing what I had. He went all excited and showed 57
off. I told him I folded Ak on a blank board

Hey, I can now muck aces post flop! I trusted my read that I was beat. If this
guy had not been so predictable, I think the hand would/could have costed me a
lot more chips. Also, if he didn't show, I might have been wondering about the
fold, which would have probably distracted me from my game. In this aspect, I
should reallu thank him for confirming me read.

Very nice fold. The weak-tighties (like me) are easy to beat. The
weak loose players are harder, especially with the overpair, because
you generally expect to be ahead in most situations. From the hands
you posted earlier, it seems like you got in a rut of calling people
because their postflop action didn't fit with your preflop reads.
Sounds like you're making the proper adjustments now. What's your
status on your WSOP quest?
