Where's the article on people who just think they have empathy, but
are quite happy to have others kill animals for them to eat?
i hear what you're saying. by the time the meat gets to the market
all wrapped up like a Christmas present, its difficult to equate it to
the torturous lives and violent deaths the animals had to go thru.
maybe a trip to a slaughter house should be a class requirement in
school. in fact, lets require people to earn a "meat eaters
certificate" by requireing them to kill and gut a cow or pig
themselves.
The steak i ate last night is from a cow i helped deliver at my uncles
farm. I
have also been known to kill and clean the fish or Chicken I am going to
eat.
Nothing like killing your own Thanksgiving Turkey.
Does that count? Can I have my Meat Eaters Certificate framed?
When I was a kid my grandmother lived in town but she still liked to raise
chickens in her backyard. Many a time I watched my uncles wring the necks
of chickens, she would clean them, and we would have fried chicken for
dinner.
One time my cousin wanted to wring the neck of the chicken and he kept doing
it and doing it but it wouldn't die. He was just swinging it around by its
neck, in a great flurry of feathers, but wasn't actually twisting the neck
to kill it. This went on for several minutes until someone finally got a
small hatchet and chopped the chicken's head off and it, of course, actually
ran around the back yard like a chicken with its head cut off. At the time,
I thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen.
