Listen. I posted a serious long post requesting help for problems I lack
the technical competence to solve. The title was "my template is broken, or
something very strange is going on".
I posted this two or three days ago, but it just showed up yesterday. I
don't know where else to turn for help. Actually I do. My weblog is just
the republication of edited posts I make to the usenet newsgroup
rec.gambling.poker (RGP).
There are numerous internet and HTML geeks who hang out there who I am quite
confident know more about these subjects than all but a few of the people
who post here. I am very sure that if I post my broken template and they
look at how fucked up my previously perfect blog now is, they will be able
to tell me exactly how to fix the problem in a matter of minutes.
Do you want me to go to a poker newsgroup with my problems? Because none of
you supposed experts can bother to spend five minutes on how to solve my
problems.
Until like three or four days ago, everything on my blog displayed
perfectly. I have a saved image of my September 2006 archive showing
everything displaying perfectly.
All the posts were formatted perfectly.
The affiliate banner ads at the top displayed perfectly.
The generic Google ad beneath the blog title box displayed perfectly.
The Google ads for Ad Sense, etc., in the right sidebar displayed perfectly.
The Amazon book links in the right side bar displayed perfectly.
Then, all hell broke loose.
Suddenly the Google ad beneath the title box was gone.
The Google ads in the right side bar were gone.
The Amazon book links were gone.
The posts, previously centered, no matter what the screen resolution, are
now flush with the left margin.
I have optimized my blog for viewing at 1152X864 screen resolution or
higher.
I have tried resaving my template, then republishing the entire blog. No
joy.
Then, starting, yesterday, I started having nightmares trying to make a
simple blog post.
My modus operandi is that I compose usenet posts for RGP using Outlook
Express.
Before I publish to RGP, I just copy and paste from Outlook Express to the
Google compose window. I then do some additional editing and formatting
before publishing the post with Blogger.
This procedure had worked flawlessly for me on quite a few posts. I had one
minor problem. Most of the carriage returns disappeared, and I had to go
through and reinsert them. I figured out yesterday what was causing that.
In Outlook Express, I specify Unicode UTF-8 for writing messages. I do this
for maximum compatibility with non-Windows systems. You cannot believe the
amount of grief I have gotten from Linux Geeks on this and other issues
which *** up their ability to read my posts.
I found that by simply changing from UTF-8 to Windows (Western European),
all the carriage returns carry over perfectly from Outlook Express to
Blogger.
But that is the least of my problems. I ran into an absolute nightmare
yesterday trying to publish the post "The Sockpuppets of the King of
Nitpickers".
I easily spent 16 hours trying to get this post to publish. I would have
pulled my hair out, except I have shaved my head bald.
I copied the perfectly formatted Outlook Express usenet post to the compose
window. I always do this before I publish the usenet post to RGP.
Normally, I copy and paste, do some minor editing and formatting, and
Blogger publishes the post perfectly formatted.
Not this time. I tried to publish and got a broken HTML error. Look. I am
an HTML novice. I barely know enough to insert my ads and affiliate banners
in the template.
But I was told exactly what was broken, found it, and fixed it. I tried to
publish again. The exact same HTML tag I just fixed was broken again. I
tried at least three or four times to repair the broken tag, but Blogger
just told me the same tag was broken over and over.
Finally, I said "*** this" and just removed the tag, which was not
essential.
Then I tried publishing again. Same thing. Now another HTML tag is broken.
I repair it three or four times, but it refuses to be fixed. It is also
non-essential, so I delete it too.
I tried to publish again, and still another HTML tag is broken and refuses
to be fixed.
Then I started getting paranoid and decided that Blogger was trying to tell
me that they don't want my business any more, because my blog is EXTREMELY
controversial, which you know if you have read it.
After ten hours or so of fruitlessly trying to fix unfixable HTML tags, I
finally said "*** this" again, and just copied the HTML for the entire post
to Notepad.
Like I said, I am an HTML novice, but I am a fast learner. I pored over the
HTML with Notepad, and the HTML was fucked up beyond belief. Virtually
every bit of HTML was fucked up in some way that would prevent publishing.
I had to essentially rewrite ALL the HTML for a very long post with a LOT of
HTML.
Please explain how this is possible, if someone or something isn't
deliberately sabatoging my blog.
Finally, I published the post with the rewritten HTML, and it published
perfectly as you can see if you look at my blog.
Now, go look at the even longer post "the education of Roy Holderness (I
hope)".
When I originally published this book length post, it was formatted
perfectly, and I mean perfectly. Now it is a hopeless mess. My best bet is
to delete it and start over with a copy and paste from Outlook Express or my
RGP post from Google Groups.
Everything is completely fucked up. Words are run together. A lot of the
line breaks are gone.
Please explain how a post can publish perfectly formatted, stay that way for
a day or two, then suddenly look like someone dropped a handgrenade on it.
Someone is going to have to do some serious explaining to convince me that
someone at Blogger isn't deliberately ratfucking my weblog because one of
his friends is one of the numerous people who are extremely pissed off
because I have told the truth about them on my weblog.
Now, here is more mystery. Last night, I discovered that the Amazon books
links are still there. They are just way down at the bottom where no one
will see them unless they scroll all the way to the bottom.
The Google ad under the title box is still missing, as are the Google ads in
the right side bar. I figured that Google wanted absolutely nothing to do
with such an EXTREMELY controversial blog, and yanked all the ads.
That doesn't bother me at all. I would like to have them, but I can make
plenty of money with affiliate banners and Amazon book links.
So I went to my Ad Sense console, or whatever you call it, and it still
shows all my Google ads intact.
Care to explain exactly what is going on??? I have made no editing changes
to the template which could have any possible effect on the Google ads or
Amazon book links. Nor have I done anything to explain why the posts are
now flush with the left margin.
So seriously, can someone tell me what to do to get my blog back?
I will give you some motivation. I assert that the real internet and HTML
ubergeeks are on RGP, not this help group. Right after I publish this post,
I will also publish it on RGP. I will also publish my template on RGP.
I am telling you that you guys are clueless beginners compared to some of
the ubergeeks on RGP.
I am telling you that they will have told me exactly how to fix my problem
before you guys can even begin to think about what has screwed up my blog so
royally.
I am telling you they will edit my template appropriately and tell me "Here,
use this for your template and everything will work perfectly" AND IT WILL.
Right now this help group is a total joke as far as I am concerned.
Are you guys going to let a bunch of poker players show you that you are not
even qualified to be their students on any aspect of HTML or the internet?
Or are you going to do what you are supposed to do -- Help a beginner like
me to fix whatever it is that is causing my problems.
I am betting the RGP ubergeeks will have already solved the problem and
given me a new template which works perfectly before any of you even figure
out what the problem is.

Well I have never looked at your blog before but the missing items do
seem to appear.
Kind of a dumb suggestion but Is it possible that you inadvertently
changed the resolution on your PC?
Hard to tell what is wrong without knowing what it is supposed to look
like - sorry.
