My question is whether you would be satisified with the current status,
grinding it out at the low limit tables, or would you challenge
yourself to be successful at higher stake games? I've been staying at
the lower limits because I find that there are enough atrocious players
to make it very profitable without risking much of my bankroll. Sure,
I have losing days when I miss my draws or when I get sucked out on,
but have had consistent results.
You have to take a shot at higher limits. What if you could be making
$100/hour instead of $50/hour?
The way I do it is to set a threshold on my bankroll of when I will move
up and when I will move back down. For example, I'll play 2/4 until my
bankroll on a site hits $1000, then I'll move up. If it drops to $750 then
I'll move back down.
I'm doing this on WSEX on the NL tables. I have $424 now, so I play the
$25 max NL table. If my roll hits $600 then I will move up tothe $50 max
NL tables. If it drops to $450 then back to the $25 NL tables I go.
On PokerStars I'm relearning how to be a profitable SnG player using the
same principal. I put $55 in and played the $5.50 SnG's until I ran it up
to $110. Now I'm playing the $11 SnG's until I get to $220.
I have a good job and poker is a slightly profitable hobby so my bankroll
requirements aren't designed to prevent me from going broke. Your bankroll
requriements are higher because if you lose your bankroll you will then
lose your poker income that you are depending on.
