Re: Daniel Negreanu and the Big Game

If you watch the next episode Daniel is going broke no matter what. He
was on tilt and was calling even when he knew he was beat.

That was a hand against Gus Hansen. I can't remember the precise details of
the hand but basically, Negreanu had a mid-pp like 8-8 and Hansen had a
smaller pp like 5-5. I believe Hansen was preflop aggressor and in earlier
position. He led out w/ a bet, Daniel called and then the flop comes 8-4-5
. . . both made a set and there were strt draws available. Hansen bets out
hard and Daniel smooth calls. <<

The only conceivable way this hand could be played differently is if Daniel
moved all in on the flop in an effort to drive Hansen off his set and
eliminate the chances of being beaten by quads. But when your opponent has
only one out to beat you, why would you play the hand any differently than
DN did? Moreover, realizing it's Hansen he's facing, it's entirely possible
that Gus could have flopped a straight and by smooth calling DN minimizes
his cost to fill up.

There are just some poker hands you're bound to go broke on, and this was
surely one of them.
