A friend recently installed Stat king on his system. The system had been
running flawlessly for several weeks after a clean install of xp pro 2.6
Mhz Celeron with 512 ram.
A day or so after the install of Stat King the system began an occasional
reboot ( about every hour) for no apparent reason, the cycle began to
increase in frequency and as of today will only loop through "post".
Occasionally the boot process will make it through to the desktop only to
restart again just a second or two after appearing.
Heat is not an issue, all fans are running fine, cpu temp is 36C.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Two suggestions come to mind:
1) The system's 'automatically restart' is cutting in. Turn this off: in
Control Panel -> System -> Advanced, click Settings in the Startup and
Recovery section. There uncheck 'automatically restart'. You may now get a
Blue screen failure instead, but at least will get some guidance (e.g. an
error message) as to what is happening.
2) Perhaps it's not Stat King, but coincidentally a hardware problem that
has suddenly reared its ugly head. I'd start with the RAM and then the power
supply. Here are some general hardware troubleshooting steps:
