The other day I was playing cards with some friends and family and the game
was five card draw with fours wild. My Uncle and I came to the showdown and
I had five of a kind that consisted of two fours and three eights. He on the
other hand had the royal flush consisting of one four (which represented the
queen of clubs) along with 10, J, K, A of clubs. Now everyone at the table
said that the Royal beat the five of a kind. This is in fact not true. If
you make a cards wild then the possibily of a royal flush is more common.
But you cannot make five of a kind unless you have a wild card. I prefer to
play in a way that makes a royal without wilds the most valuable followed by
five of a kind, then the royal with wilds. If I wrong in saying that five of
a kind beats a royal flush then let me know. But I am convinced that five of
a kind does beat a royal. OH yea in case you were wondering we ended up
splitting that pot.
You were cheated out of a pot ;-) 5 of a kind does beat a straight flush.
Back in my weekly home game days (damn, I still miss NJ) we had
an exception: a 'natural' straight flush (no wild cards) beat everything...
don't recall ever seeing one in the game though.
