Re: deal-making with cards to come (idiot insurance)

After losing three expensive post-flop "overpair vs. one single

calls, I had terrific odds, and my play (either calling the bluff or

However, I very much disliked losing, particularly in the tournament
situations in which they occurred.

So what if favored players were insured against disasters, acts of god,
etc?

Perhaps, poker could allow the favored player to 'settle' for the
pro-rated value of his hand, factoring in the underdog's odds of
sucking out, which are usually in fact low, 10% perhaps, but in the
midst of a bad run, feel more like 100%.

In essence, if I'm 88% to win the pot with 2 cards to come and all the
money in the middle, I'm afforded right the right to take 88% of the
pot right now. Special exceptions could be made for instances in which
the underdog's odds of winning, compared to the pot size, make his
chase correct. In these cases, the dog could refuse the settlement and
insist the remaining cards are dealt.

In cases where 'fold equity' is cited as the justification for idiotic
pushes, this will not loan an idiotic push any degree of 'correctness',
as increasing numbers of players are using 'fold equity' as
justification for idiotic play, and I'm tired of it. If you're called
by a better hand, and you have no reasonable draw, the fact you wanted
to believe you had "fold equity" is just unfortunate.

This is not just a bad beat rant in disguise.

p.s. this may well just be a bad beat rant in disguise

I would only be in favor of such a plan if the insurance came at a
premium. That way, people would take it, and it would increase my edge.
