There is a big difference between playing online and in the casinos in

Right. In a casino you have to put on pants. While I personally prefer
online game games to live cash games (up to a certain point), I have many
friends that swear by live, seeing as you are basically forced to focus on
one game at a time, can get a better read on when someone is strong/weak,
ect. It's a matter of personal preference, not a solid truth that can be
spoken as fact.
There are a minimal amount of fish who log many hours of
table time.
......what Vegas are you going to?!?!? Obviously there will be some
tables that are tough, but in my experience in playing lower (2-5) NL
games, mid (5-10 and 10-20) NL games, and mid-to-high limit games, in
addition to what I've been told about lower NL and lower limit games,
there are no shortages of weak players that can be exploited. While
playing online you have the advantage of scouting the tables beforehand
and jumping onto new tables at will, I've found that the average skill of
live players is low, especially in higher limits. Again, it's a matter of
personal preference but implying that live games, especially in vegas, are
unbeatable is just foolish.
Some young hotshot will find it very hard to make a living
in this environment.
Again, I'd really like to know where you are getting this information,
both that the vegas games are almost unbeatable, and that Jordan is some
sort of a high flying cocky hard headed player?
Obviously Fellknight has been very successful online.
Again, what do you have to base that on? Have you watched him play? I
haven't, thus I can't make any claim as to how good or bad he is. I bring
this up to point out that you seem to just blurt out statements that you
try to pass off as facts, when in reality you don't know what you are
talking about.
My advice to him;
Seeing as you seem to harp on this subject MUCH more than a general
passerby, I'm curious as to what you feel qualifies you to give him
advice? Have you played professionally in Vegas for longer than a week at
a time? Have you ever lived here? Have you played professionally online
for any extended period of time? Please note that I honestly don't know
who you are, and this question is real; I'm not trying to be sarcastically
distant or anything like that.
stay where you are and play online.
Why can't he move and play online? Isn't game selection key? Wouldn't
you say that the more choices someone has, the better they will ultimately
do? There have been many nights where I looked for an hour and couldn't
find any decent games online, went out and found a juicy live game (and
vise versa). Even if he only goes out to play (or try to sat into) big
live tournaments, wouldn't that be increasing his EV while decreasing his
expenses (travel, hotel, rental car, taxi, ect)? Even if he never
ventures outside of the house at all, have you ever been to vegas? It's
wonderful! Great weather, good city, cheap living, tons of things to do
(outside of casinos). I've lived a few places around the country (I can't
speak for Canada), and I haven't found a nicer place to live.
The money will be good, and your
expenses won't change one bit.
Money online is stagnant. There is a ceiling. At a certain point, the
level of competition gets very high and the money is difficult to come by.
Also, the tournaments have a ceiling. Live has better, bigger games and
larger tournaments with a modest amount of people, so you don't have to
wait 5 years for the long term effects to hit you and you can start
showing a good profit. Also, how do you know his expenses??? I was
always under the impression that he lived somewhere on or near the base,
in which case his expenses WILL change, as I'd imagine he'd have to move
out if he plays full time online.
You can always go to Vegas for some big
tourney, but otherwise you will not lose the edge you currently have.
Again, I'm baffled as to how playing online from Vegas will be different
from playing online from Canada. How is the experience or the edge any
different? I think you have a warped view of vegas. It is a NORMAL TOWN.
People do normal stuff here, including play online poker for extended
periods of time. When you move in, you aren't forced to play 40 hours a
week at a live casino. People who live here have free will, and a vast
majority can quickly figure out how to make the most money for themselves,
be it playing online, playing live, or (in most cases) a healthy
combination of both.
