I didn't know this. I thought being an atheists meant you didn't
believe
in
God. Or maybe I've just never met one of the ones that believe in
God.

There is a *big* difference between god and God.

atheist. The word, by definition, means anti-theist - against religion
(just as asexual means not sexual, atheist means not theist).

What are you trying to get at by pointing this out?

He's trying to prove he doesn't know what he is talking about. The A in
atheist doesn't mean 'against', it means 'not'.

I believe I said that (read it again, it is right there four lines up). I
pointed out the meaning of athiest to point out how Ron's assertion that
some atheists believe in god (god not God lol) is ludicrous. By
definition, atheists do not believe in any god.

Mike, you can't expect to one answer to this question. Different
'atheists' believe vastly different things. Some have no problem
believing in god, but don't believe in any particular God (this is
different than agnostics who are open to the possibility of, say,
a
Christian God). Some believe in the vast nothingness that you
describe
after life, and that the idea of any god is wrong. Some don't
know
what to believe. As for arguing against religious viewpoints,
some
just have an academic interest in philosophical things, some
believe
the world would be a better place overall without religion. You
would
need to be much more particular in your question if you want a
particular answer.

This is not a rant and I'd appreciate a serious answer. One
thing I've
never understood about atheists is why they spend so much time
and
energy
railing against something they say doesn't exist. If you're a
forty
year
old atheist it means you've already used up more than half of
your life.
I'd think you'd be out chasing wine, women and song, or at least
be
doing
something productive, instead of wasting your few remaining years
arguing
against something you don't believe
in. We non-atheists believe there is a life for us beyond this
life so
the
time we spend on religion (praying, going to Mass, saying a
Rosary,
reading
the bible, etc.) is no big deal. But you atheists believe in
nothing
but
black emptiness. If I was an atheist I'd devote my remaining days
to
enjoying myself and dreaming of winning the lottery and banging
Shana
Hiatt.
I sure as hell wouldn't waste even a minute of it arguing about
some
thing I
don't believe in and that can never be proved in this life time.
