Re: Question for Atheists

It's not accurate to refer to people of all faiths as 'deists.' Deists
(like Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, and George Washington) believe in a
creative force or a grand architect so to speak, but refute the divinity
of Christ or organized religion as a whole, and insist that reason should
be the determining factor versus revelation. Hence, many enlightnement
thinkers and the French Philosophes were deists. Deism (for the most part)
will state that the creative force (whatever it may be) does not interfere
with human affairs and lets humanity decide for itself what it wants to
do.

Go to www.deism.com and www.deism.org for information of what deism is.

Also, the Wikipedia entry for deism is excellent, and you can read that
here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deism

Excerpt from Wikipedia entry:

"Historical and modern deism is defined by the view that reason, rather
than revelation or tradition, should be the basis of belief in God. Deism
has become identified with the classical belief that God created but does
not intervene in the world, though this is not a necessary component of
deism.

"Deism was championed by Enlightenment thinkers such as Voltaire and some
of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Thomas Jefferson and
Benjamin Franklin are among the most well-known of the American founding
deists. There is debate as to whether George Washington was a deist or
not.Thomas Paine published The Age of Reason, a treatise that popularized
deism throughout America and Europe. Paine wrote that deism represented
the application of reason to religion, finally settling problems that
formerly were thought to be permanently controversial. Deists hoped to
also settle religious questions permanently and scientifically by reason
alone, without revelation."

They argue it because they need other people to realize how stupid they
are for believing in God. It's no fun just thinking you're superior to
everyone else, you have to try and prove it as well.

No, look, it's just that seeing deists waste their lives on pointless
mumbojumbo makes the baby jesus cry, I mean, makes atheists cry.
