Mike, you can't expect to one answer to this question. Different
'atheists' believe vastly different things. Some have no problem
believing in god, but don't believe in any particular God (this is
different than agnostics who are open to the possibility of, say, a
Christian God). Some believe in the vast nothingness that you describe
after life, and that the idea of any god is wrong. Some don't know
what to believe.
Not all of those views are those of an atheist. Mike's question is legit,
you're just trying to make it more complicated. It's not that complicated.
As for arguing against religious viewpoints, some
just have an academic interest in philosophical things, some believe
the world would be a better place overall without religion. You would
need to be much more particular in your question if you want a
particular answer.
Huh?
I agree that Mike's question is perfectly legit, and I gave him an
honest answer.
I am not trying to make it complicated, It *is* a complicated issue
with a huge disparity in viewpoints. Its not as if atheism is a club
in which everyone shares the same views.
What from my post do you not think is an atheist view?
