and, of course, by exercising more and eating less.

oops-misspelled exercise in my previous post

Let me add one more thing... Nobody, man or woman, ever VOLUNTARILY puts
on
weight (unless they're underweight to begin with and, yeah, we all hate
them
anyway heh), so it's not a matter of waiting until after they're married
to
do
anything. It's something that just kind of sneaks up on a person, I
think.

There's a biological component at work here, too. As people age, their
metabolism slows down, because their pituitary glands release less growth
hormone during sleep and exercize. Consequently, they begin to lose lean
body mass (muscle) and gain fat. This starts happening at quite an early
age; early 20s, I believe. At the same time, the amount of DHEA produced
by
their bodies begins to diminish, and this has the same kind of detrimental
effect.

All of this can be counteracted with correct nutritional supplementation
and/or growth hormone shots.

Ok, fine. But answer this, why do women wait until AFTER getting

Well, first of all, Mike, not all women do. I weigh the same now,
after
two
children, than I did the day we got married almost five years ago (but
I
was
never skinny so I don't know whether that really matters in my case).
After
having children, though, my body is shaped differently -- my waistline
is no
longer as defined as it once was. This is the case for many women, and
there's
rarely anything anyone can do about it. It can eventually improve, but

it
takes
a long time and we're never back to where we were before.

Also, after children, you tend to stop going out as much. This means
less
drinking and less activity in general. Everybody says that drinking
makes you
gain weight, but in my experience, when you drink more you eat less.
If
drinking isn't a factor, then a woman certainly spends more nights in
sitting
on
the couch that she ever did before she got married.

You make it sound as if it's some evil plot that women have to make
men's
lives
inconvenient. Like a bait-and-switch con. It's not that way at all.
Women's
bodies change after having children and in general they become less
active
when
they get married -- there's not as much running around with friends,
or
running
around on dates. That is all. It's not as if we get married then start
eating
Frito's by the caseload because "now that we've got him, we can". It
just
doesn't work that way. It usually takes some time to pack on any
amount
of
weight, and it's just due to changes in lifestyle and daily habits.

If you'd notice, a lot of men gain weight after they get married, too,
for the
same reasons -- just more sitting around than before. Plus, in many
cases,
they're eating regular food on a regular basis, whereas before they
got
married,
eating meant either salads, cereal, or ramen noodles.

But, you know, maybe you're right about some women. Maybe some women
do
really
watch their weight during singlehood then kind of get comfortable and
ease up
on
their restrictions when they get married. I can't speak for them
because
I'm
not one of these women. I've always eaten, drank, and exercised (or
not)
as
I've pleased, and my weight hasn't fluctuated more than twenty pounds
in
the
past ten years (including pregnancies). No surprises here. :-)

For instance, when was the last time you heard a woman say, "Gee, I sure
wish I
could get my weight up to 200 pounds. That'll show him!" Again, it just
doesn't work that way.
