Nick,
First of all, you completely missed the point of the OPs thesis. The
great entrepreurial spirit is what has led this country to greatness;
Of course an economy and social order built around the entrepreneurial
ideal is certainly equally important.
It stands to reason that you are not so obtuse and tossed out this
herring because you just wanted to poke a finger in the OP's eye
without making a factual or sensible counter-argument.
If you are actually that obtuse, then take a history lesson, here's one
on the cheap (free.) -
In the run up to WWII, most of the European powers stood on the
sidelines as Germany ran across much of the continent; the euros hoped
that 'reunification' would appease Hitler. It did not. And Britain
and France allowed German forces to march right up to their border
before they started worrying. (Leave it to the euros to try to treaty
a warmonger to sleep.)
Can I laugh now?
Britain and France went to when Germany was expanding EASTwards....now I
know
geography is not really a strong point for the average US citizen, but
try
getting out an atlas and see where Britain and France is compared to
Germany.
Cue the US bailing the euros asses out of the fire. Cue US action
saving the world from euro inaction.
Britian and France declared war on Germany in 1939, when the Germans
invaded
Poland. The US entered the war in late 1941, when Germany declared War on
US after the Japanese attacked Peral Harbour....
Note, the US did not enter the war for the reason of 'bailing the euro
asses
out of the fire', or to 'save the world from euro inaction', but war was
declared on them by Germany. Seems your history is just as bad as your
geography.
Nick,
Well put. The attitude that the USA "went to war to save euro ass" is
pervasive in American culture, and is very easy to accept if you have not
studied the actual historical events themselves.
It's not only easy to accept, but I view it as a large part of the biggest
fault Americans have. Too many Americans think that Europe owes America a
favor for "saving their asses". I don't fault Europeans for vigilantly
disagreeing.
