Re: tanya and medical billing

"Ok, so now you have to pay $25/hr plus some portion of
the highly paid supervisor's salary. "

well, some of those labs are like production line factories with a
line of lowly paid DeVry graduates handling several cases at once, i
wonder how many man hours actually go into that $450 charge. not many i
suspect.

"Oh yea, there is also
the malpractice/liability insurance."

john stossel did a piece that that showed that was greatly
exagerated factor. but, yes, it is part of the equation. specially
considering what i said above.

"While I don't doubt
it's a relatively lucrative business it is still competitive."

i just dont know about that. very few people shop around for the
best price on medical care. they just pay what theyre told to pay or
they have insurance and dont care what it costs. (is that you?). my
dads doctor loves to send him off for various tests. mri's, xrays,
blood tests, etc. i ask the doctor how much it will cost (even though i
know its covered by insurance). the doctor always says "i dont know".
he's not interested in finding the best deal for us. and so we march
off to the specific test center he sends us to. theres no shopping
around involved.

"Because of this they may contract with an
insurance company for little to no profit while the list price
is necessary for profit margins on other business to account
for the variance, non-payment, etc"

thats quite a jump from the $125 no-profit charge up to $450. no
wonder there is such a "non-payment factor". medical care is just too
expensive. and its very difficult to understand what your getting for
your money. those doctors think they deserve to be paid like baseball
players!
