online NL holdem tournament late game strategy

Hi all ,

I play a lot of buy in tournaments online with over 1000 players. For
half of the tournaments I play in, I'm able to get to somewhere near
the pay position with average or below average stack

But I can't seem to find the right strategy to get to top 10 more often
than I want.

At the late stage of a tournament (100 or less remaining of 1000+)I
usually only bet minimum to 3xBB preflop with premium or strong hands,
or occasionally other pocket pairs depending on the position. Then use
my judgement from there.

The problem is people tend to either fold or play somewhat aggressively
, and I really can't afford committing too much into the pot without a
good hand at the flop. Meanwhile, my stack is being eaten away by
blinds and antes, and from betting to see the flop.

I most of the times end up in a low paying position. very awful
considering the amount of time invested.

Any useful tips would be appreciated.
