Hmmm.
Seeing as how I'm bored with arguments with the Usual Suspects, I am
forced to give this one a try.
I think the concept of Evolution is appropriate here.
Not as a concept of human evolution, but as a concept of Institutional
Evolution.
Like any organization or Institution that grows like a LIfe Form
dedicated to the propagation of itself, the labor unions have grown.
I would say that the early establishment of Labor Unions was a
positive thing.
And furthermore they evolved into the type of Institution that it is
today.
A Totalitarian Institution that requires an exhibitor at a Convention
Center to pay an Electrician to unplug a light from a wall socket.
As an Omniscient Being, I humbly suggest that the two of you are
looking at the same animal, just at different moments in time.
Carson is looking at California as it was when Grapes of Wrath was
written, and you are looking at it as it exists today.
Even so, there is a story about the movie of the same name, that Uncle
Joe Stalin imported the film to Russia to show how the workers were
exploited.
The stubborn Russkies took the wrong message.
They said "See, in America, even the poor people drive trucks"
That story might be an Urban Legend, but I like it.
It's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I do believe that Carson's story about the Company Store is true, but
that was then, and this is now.
I haven't heard about any Company Store lately.
Can't you guys just Get Along?
Here is another disturbing thought.
It used to be that Government workers accepted a lower wage than those
in private industry because of job security and the promise of future
benefits.
But that was then and this is now.
Now, the biggest labor unions are Government workers.
They demand higher wages and benefits NOW, in addition to their
benefits later.
You got your teachers unions.
At least the Trade Unionists are honest enough to admit that their
goals are better working conditions, wages and benefits for their
members.
The teachers tell us that it is For the Children.
University Perfessers are on that team.
They are evolving at an alarming rate.

I think you got that one right.
Ivory tower Perfessors spend a whole bunch of time researching ancient
materials that portray the Soviet Union as a wonderful new Utopia.
It hasn't even been that long that new material from the archives of
the Evil Empire show that the Rosenbergs did indeed deserve the Chair.

Remember when the newspaper depended on kids to deliver their papers?
All kinds of stories about a Newsboy who grew up to be a real
worldbeater.
No doubt those stories were absolutely true.
Oh oh, now I'm going to have to defend Tad.
Let me put it this way.
There are people on RGP that are on my Must Read List when it comes to
poker strategy.
But when it comes to politics, they are on my other list.
