Up close & personal in NO

I am still reeling after reading this. This couple flew down at their own
expense to help.
Once the crew came back and I met up with (R), (S),(J), and (A) who
just brought back 7 people back from hell. They rolled in on a black
hummer and a old RV.
They ate lunch and we headed out together, all of us were armed and I
was given a shotgun. We drove from a new (HQ)location in Pride and
headed south to where they had been getting people out. We rolled
through the NG guards slowly as if either side was expecting some
beef from one another.
I could not believe the smell, even the vicks under my nose didn't
help. We stopped along the road and we were in "the projects" and
people were sitting everywhere, here and there. As I looked around, I
have never in my life seen filth like this.
One house (A) went in, they had cutout a recliner seat and were
shitting and pissing in a bucket, when it was full they dumped it out
on the back porch. The people are in shock and have nothing else so
they dont want to leave.
There are body parts laying in the streets, in debris and around in
places in general. I saw a bottom jaw of a person with the lower lip
attached, a arm with the thumb, index and middle finger on it, a
large piece of skin about 8x10 inches which had a inch of fat on it,
a crushed head and part of a arm from the same corpse under a porch
roof, a corpse of a what I believe was a young teenager bloated with
gas againist a chain link fence. It had small maggots crawling in its
mouth the eyelids were shrunk and dried up.
One corpse had torn flesh everywhere and had 60% on its clothes on,
which I think was a male. In its private area the penis must have
been swollen under the jeans judging by the softball size mound.
At 0200hrs a local I was talking to at the shelter said he had his
truck and scooter there if I wanted to see what he had found where he
once lived. I could go in and out of the shelter as I pleased and
asked if he could leave to take me somewhere. We left drove to an
area SW about an hour away. We unloaded his scooter, and drove
through some back streets or walk ways. We stopped and walked to what
I think was a wall of a building, w/ flash lights he showed me the
bodies swollen and gather in water in the corner. I saw at least
12-16 different bodies.
To the left on a slop, maybe plywood, the crawfish were all feasting
on small pieces of human flesh that were just floating in the water.
I counted 19 of them and most of them had both claws filled with
flesh and were feasting. Some of the flesh was floating "around" some
of it was settled. I believe this area was rainwater left from the
storm as it was a dark muddy color but I could still see 4-5 inches
below the surface.
The mosquitos and flies are starting to come in bigger numbers. I
didn't notice a large number of growth in the short time I was there.
But there are a lot of flies. I wore long sleeves and sprayed myself
heavily with 99% deet spray, I also wore a net over my head and neck.
The dogs are packing together and I saw several groups running
around. One group I saw were all eating on something together, I
couldn't tell what it was through my scope. It tapered in size so I
am sure it was a leg of a human, but not positive. I saw no cats at
all, anywhere in the areas we went.
On our last mission the NG located us and fired shots over our heads
and told us to drop any weapons we had. They searched us and took my
knife, camera and all our weapons. They took our names down and
stated that if we returned we would be charged federally for
trespassing and I didn't catch the disaster law because I was
lighting a smoke.
Later back at the shelter (A) showed signs of PTSS, and stated he saw
a body in the corner of the room we were in. The lights were bright
and he was sweating badly. His head is going to be fucked up for
sometime, as he has never seen a dead body before or has any training.
Myself? I have a heavy heart, and sad. I have seen dead people torn
in half, body parts and such. I have never smelt that odor before, it
reminds me of a dead deer in a creek mixed with burning hair in a ash
tray. Mentally I am ok and starting to feel better slowly.
I personally don't know who to call stupid, people or goverments
( state and federal ) But I want some fucking answers, I wanna know
why!!
I changed my flight date and came home.
They have stacks of body bags, I heard the goverment ordered 200,000
and that there could possibly be 25,000 to 30,000 dead in N.O. alone.
A rumor going around is that this storm has killed 50,000-80,000
people when the final count is done. Our search area was about 10
square miles, and in the time I was there we saved 72 people lives.
Some I know were crackheads, but still needed saving because their
still humans.
I know some people have hero hearts like me, and want to go help!!!
If you or a loved one is considering going to help, please don't You
are walking into the most biologically dangerous area I can think of.
During WWII at least the bodies were burned or burried, not left to
bake and stew in water in such large numbers.
The shelter where you sent the food to will can use it as its a
womens and childs shelter. Which is the reason we had to move our
operation north to Pride. Thank you for your support, the reason I
refused money is I am not a charity foundation and I had no time to
spend it. My trip cost me about 574.00 for the plane ticket from
Delta and 300.00 worth of supplies. So saving each person cost me
12.13 to save, thats a pretty cheap price to save a life don't you
think?
At no time did we "rescue" anyone, we just walked up to them and
talked to them and begged them to come with us. Using the word
"rescue" loosely in what I did.
