Hi Gary -
You cannot use the exception to prove the rule. Of course, there have
been instances where people have been shot by a rifle. However, the
vast majority of crimes are committed with handguns. Do you dispute
this? If you do not, we must agree that treating handguns as
equivalent to deer rifles when analyzing frequency of crimes is
pointless. If you do dispute that handguns are used more frequently
in crimes than other guns, I'd love to see some sources.
