OT Favre and Mississippi

As probably the most famous person (at this time) to come out of
Mississippi, it is no surprise that Favre has become the face of this
disaster, at least up here in Wisconsin. I've seen some posts and news
stories that mention "things aren't that bad", "water is receding," and
"New Orleans was spared the death blow." After, listening to Favre's
press conference, which I hope goes national, I've realized that there
are people that are VERY DESPERATE right now. Favre mentioned that in
his house in Hattiesburg, there are over 50 people and there was only 1
loaf of bread left as of yesterday. "The children are starving."
There is no where to get food, clothes, and the heat is over 100
degrees with no air conditioning. For most people, the only thing they
have is the clothes on their back, and there is nothing else. If that
is how the millionaires down there are doing, just think of all the
other people. Favre admits sending a truck full of supplies to his
family as well as a few more to get as far south as possible. He has
no idea if they will get there. What about the people not getting a
truck full of supplies? Players throughout the team and NFL (and
country for that matter) have no idea if their family is alive, where
they are, and how they are doing if they are alive because there is no
means of communication. Power is expected to be out for at least a
week, and maybe as long as 2 months! Nobody knows when they will get
their next meal, shower, or set of clothes. This is just the survival
part. Rebuilding will without a doubt take years.

I have taken it upon myself to give 5% of my poker winnings to the Red
Cross every week for at least the next 4 weeks. If I lose, I will send
a care package that week. I hope it helps.
