Steen, you sound like you are playing the old "Hotel" paradox! :)
9 ways to settle the bet.
you only calculated "8"
WW
WL
LW
LL
Where did the missing L's go ? And where did you get the extra "W"? :)
The possible winning or losing outcomes of two wagers does not equal
nine!! Ha ha ha.
I ain't the smartest person in the world, but I don"t think I'm the
dumbest either!
Geez JB, you sure aren't helping yourself here. You need to think
about these posts before you rapid-fire your responses. There's no
paradox. There are nine ways to settle EACH bet when you roll the
dice:
1-6 = Lose
2-5 = Lose
3-4 = Lose
4-3 = Lose
5-2 = Lose
6-1 = Lose
1-3 = Win
2-2 = Win
3-1 = Win
Did you count nine JB? Any sleight of hand here? Six outcomes result
in a loss and three result in a win. Since the house does not pay
differently on any of the winning combinations nor does it distinguish
between any of the losing combinations, we can boil it down to two
final outcomes: WIN or LOSE with probabilities of 1/3 and 2/3's
respectively. See how that works?
I could make some smart remark about La Money type math...but I won't!
<grin>
Good lord, someone save me ... after all the snipes, gibes, innuendos,
and heaven knows what that I've seen you post, you're now holding
yourself out to be Miss Manners?
<Oh, by the way, a random walk only needs to be "fair" in my
scenario....doesn't matter the steps on each decision! 2-1 or 100-1 no
matter, as long as it's fair odds! The math still says if you start one
step to the right, the walk is expected to end to the right!
Try and work on the basics before you get off on any more random
walks.

Steen
