Re: How do you win at craps?

This is anecdotal alan. The results could've just as easily been reversed.

Why do you press your bets?

Jeff, several years ago I made a post which I called "power of the

Im pasting the post here:

My son and I both played at Caesar's the other night. Both of us at
the same
table, both of us had a buy-in of $300, and both of us played the same
amount
of time -- BUT our betting was different.

My son limited his place bets to 5, 6, 8, 9 but never had more than two place bets working. He bet the pass line with $10 and when the point was 6 or 8 he backed up the pass line with $10 odds. He bet horn high ace deuce on his come out rolls for $5 and sometimes pressed to $10 if the horn bet hit. Sometimes he would add $1 to the high and low bet. HE NEVER pressed his bets when they won. He always played the hardways for at least a buck, and bet $5 or $10 on hard 6 and hard 8 when he was rolling. He often hits hard 6 and hard 8 and sometimes has some nice returns on this.

My strategy: I placed $10 on pass line and backed up points 6 and 8 with $25 odds and usually $20 odds on 4, 5, 9, 10. I always bet all the place numbers so either $52 or $54 across. I rarely bet the hardways and if I did it was for a buck, and I always bet $5 on the horn high ace deuce not only on come out rolls, but after a shooter throws a craps (I believe they come in pairs). My big difference in play was that I always pressed my place numbers when they hit. For example, when the 4 or 10 hits I go to $25, when the 5 or 9 hits I throw in a buck and go to $25 as well. When 6 or 8 hits I split the payoff on the 6 and 8. Once I have green chips all across, I stop pressing (usually the shooter sevens out by then anyway). But sometimes the chips keep coming into my rack. One shooter had 6 fours in his hand -- and I kept adding $50 to my rack after the second hit. Another shooter (my son) had four 9's in one of his hands so I got a couple of nice payoffs on that.

Okay the results:

I finished the play time with a PROFIT of $320. My son finished with a
loss of
$240. I attribute the better results for me to the "press" of the
place bets and the avoidance of the hardways.

cheers, alan
