I have also capitulated to confusion, perhaps caused in part by the
entry of ACDOC in my killfile. As best as I can determine he assumes
that a Poisson process always yields a Poisson distribution; I do not
recall this being a valid assumption without some empirical
verification. (I also note that Poisson distributions are typically
used to determine the probability of a number of occurrences of an event
per unit of time, like calls per hour to a help desk. Applying this
distribution to craps seems a bit of a stretch even though craps does
satisfy the criteria for a Poisson process.)
