Hi all,

I'm planning to switch to a vegetarian diet
and was wondering what the recommended protein
intake would be per day? My main sources of protein
will be legumes, soy products, and eggs.
I've heard that one should increase their
carb intake somewhat as well when switching from
a regular diet -- is this true?

No.

Many people will tell you that as long as you get enough calories from good food that you will have "enough" protein. Maybe, but you will not have the highest quality protein unless you combine certain groups of foods within a 24 hour period ( ideally at each meal ):

legumes ( beans, peas, peanuts ) and whole grains
legumes and seeds

Check out the link in my sig, it is all about vegetarian nutrition.

So is this url

http://www.veganhealth.org

The USRDA for protein is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight. Experts recommend 15% more if you do not combine foods as state above. Some people think the USRDA for protein is a bit high. Experiment and watch your energy levels.
