Re: DRYING STARTER FOR STORAGE

Hi Marylouise, you wrote:

Wonder if they got it off the BBGA where I posted it the other day
after a member brought it up. He didn't have the time and/or ability to
scan it for posting and sent it to me when I offered to do that.

Yes, that's where they apparently came from.

Glad you read it. I just did the mechanics of getting it up and have
not read it yet. Then I got nervous and left the folder up but took
down the files until I could get permission from the publisher (sold to
another company now), because it is a full 8 page article, not just a
one page excerpt. (I figured with the folder still there anyone who
found it empty would contact me and I could pass along the file to
them, until we get permission, or wait so long we decide they don't
give a poop about us posting it...)

Well, isn't that amazing. The articles are over 30 years old, are very hard to come by, are only of interest for a very limited number of people, the commercial value is negative (when attempting to make money from it) - an yet one still has to go through hoops to find the current copyright holder and beg for permission.

This probably applies:

Copyrighted 1964-1977

All books initially copyrighted in the US from 1964 through 1977 have had their copyrights automatically renewed (by law) and the copyrights are still in force. The initial copyright term was 28 years; the renewal was for 67 more years. So a book initially copyrighted in 1964 will pass into the public domain in 1964 + 28 + 67 + 1= 2060.

(that's from: http://library.dts.edu/Pages/RM/Helps/copyright.shtml)

Totally nuts! <better stop ranting> This sure begs for "F-ing".

I've thawed out stored frozen starter and had ok success but probably
didn't have it frozen much more than a year. So what did I have??...
maybe just a "new" starter, smile. I'll be interested in what you find
if you do activate yours.

If I ever get around to it :-(
