I don't think that many understand how higher fuel/energy costs is what
has caused our current recession.
Really? Not crooked bank lending leading to a collapse of
international credit?
JanetThat's the other side of the coin... <g>
But higher fuel prices raise the price of EVERYthing due to shipping
costs. Most stuff is re-distributed by semi-truck once it's brought in
by rail and sea freight.
Ah, I hadn't though of that.. Here in Britlandshire everything
imported is distributed by horsedrawn carts.
You should see those poor equines struggling up hills dragging oil tankers.
And how far does your stuff have to be trucked? Do you think the
tankers from China deliver to Iowa? It goes on a train, then a truck,
then another truck.
How big is your country? What is the maximum distance your stuff has
to be trucked?
I work in a grocery store. Our products are shipped from places all
over the country. They get shipped to a warehouse, then shipped out to
the stores. Each truck goes to multiple stores. We get several loads a
day.
My nephew used to a be a truck driver. He drove from Seattle to Los
Angeles once a week. He drove a cooler truck down with seafood and
returned with produce. Every week. Most of our food comes a longer
distance than your country's longest distance.
