For one thing, I don't like paying taxes on tips when I know those

I would guess if you polled every single tax payer in the US, you would
find that every single one had some kind of issue as to how tax money
was spent or collected. Therefore, *nobody* should have to pay taxes.
It's the oldest argument in the book.

...and one of the stupidest, for the reason you mention.

I always wonder where my taxes went when roads become pitted with potholes
for weeks at a time before they're filled, and when I accidentally hit one
and knock my front end out of line. Taxes don't pay for front-end
alignments on my car. And I also don't like it when the highway
department dumps tar and gravel all over the highways, making my car sound
like a train from the inside driving at highway speeds. They say it
"saves money" on repaving highways. But research shows it also raises the
stress and fatigue levels of drivers, having to hear that extra road noise
from all the gravel. I've seen the highway department here pave a
perfectly good blacktop highway, smooth as silk and as quiet as a gentle
breeze, only to come back a month later and ruin it by dumping gravel all
over it.

I don't think it's a stupid argument to complain about how taxes are
spent. It's the voicing of an opinion, which is never stupid.
