no, i meant UPS, a private entity that typically costs more than the USPS -

But they track it (well and nearly instantly), insure it up to $100
for free, guarantee it by a certain day (and in some cases, by a certain
time) and deliver it faster. If you use ground, it only costs more up
to five pounds, beyond that, it is cheaper to go UPS. I worked in
shipping in college, UPS, FedEx, DHL, another one I can't remember the
name of now, then the USPS, in that order. I don't use USPS unless I
have to, like for a regular letter or tiny package.
You need to compare like to like. Priority mail isn't guaranteed
like 3-day or 2-day is, it can be tracked, but their tracking system is
slow and limited. Not all USPS mail can be tracked. There is no
insurance on your mail, unless you pay extra for it. You cannot mail as
many items as you can ship via commercial carriers (alcohol is limited
by state law, but the mail forbids all alcohol being sent, for
instance). You cannot submit a claim for mail being lost until a month
has passed, without the original PO receipt _and_ tracking number. UPS,
FedEx and all the rest allow you to do it the day it is late, with the
tracking number. Express mail is guaranteed only to the level that
2-day air is, still has the tracking and claim problems of other mail
service and is at least the same price for next day air by commercial
carriers.
UPS is much, much better service. They have to be, they would go out
of business if they provided the poor service of the USPS. That isn't
even touching the personalities and customer service differences in
their employees.
