Don't think too many ISPs offer binaries for free anymore. (Or at
least they don't advertise the fact that they still carry them). A
lot of ISPs dropped binary groups a while back - and many people had
to switch to a 'pay for' news service.
Earthlink still does, it may be one of the last...

And from what I read on some of the internal EL newsgroups there is a
"cap" on excessive downloading...
So does charter, but not very many people know they have a news
server. Probably why it's still there. Most of the techs probably
don't know it's there.

Probably not <laugh>.

Interestingly enough, the September free service is faster, so I use it as primary, unless I want to download
something binary.

Yeah, that's a pretty good service. One thing tho' - think you mentioned
that they only carry the follow-up posts to a.b.f. (or was that
somebody else?) Anyway, I thought so too - but the odd post still gets
through if the pic(s) are not too big. I *think* they've just put a
file size limit on the posts.

Heh. Looks like they still do - go take a look at the OP in a thread
called "Porkchop Dinner" posted on 1st September - the pic in the OP is
there, but it's under 100Kb.

CC - I see the same things posts.. In fact I was wondering about why all the gravy on the pork chop plate. If I had that much gravy to spare, I'd have made dumplings, mashed, or biscuits to under it. I hope it wasn't wasted, looked pretty tasty.

But when I specifically want to see the pics, or download an Ebook, I just switchover to my ISP's server.I like how multiple servers work under Thunderbird. Each server being only on click away.
