I use Gourmet recipe manager. I've installed it on a windows

Then maybe I will try. I just hate when the software does not
want to work with the OS.

Thank you ChattyCathy!
Sandi - I hope I didn't drag you awat from it's use.

I liked the interface, and it's features.

What I did not like is the lack of support from the geeks that made
it, and don't take responsibility for the broken pieces.

Just my opinion.

Thing is Bob, it's free software - and it's open source - therefore you
takes your chances with it; if you find a bug that is a show-stopper
for you, you fix it yourself (or if you don't have the time and/or
skills, get someone else to fix it). However, the developer(s) do put
out bug fixes when they have the time available.

I've had the odd problem with other (free) open source software that I
use on my linux box - but my husband Jack knows a bit about programming
and database administration so he just fixes it for me...

Cathy you make a good point. I also went out of my way to say I liked the interface. In fact, I liked the application in regards to both quality and ease of installation for not being a windows based app. What I was down on, is the fact I went to the trouble of documenting my issue, and was dismissed out of hand as a duplicate problem. True, it is freeware so I shouldn't have much support expectancy, but since it is unix based software, i had a higher level of expectancy than regular freeware.

I am a computer geek of sorts. I have been supporting if not at the keyboard all these years, the midrange enterprise environments for over 25 years now. I even worked a little with Ingres and Oracle a bit way back when. But I have never worked with SQL (or MSSQL). Otherwise, I would have fixed the problem myself. It was evident I was not going to get help from the developer. I did not complain at their site, nor did I complain here. I accepted that I wasn't going to get help, and unless I put significant effort into it, I wasn't going to fix it myself, so I removed it and just moved on.
