Putting money where my mouth is, I also give blood several times a
year. That really makes me feel like I've done something useful for
society.
Unfortunately, I am no longer allowed to do this.
Bummer.
My SO gives blood, but she's only allowed (by Red Cross rules) to
donate every 3 months.
I donate plasma (every two weeks) and platelets as needed (4 times so
far).
I've also been called in for screening for a possible bone marrow
donation twice. Made it to the 2nd stage of matching on the last one
but was scrubbed
again. Maybe 3rd time lucky!! I've got another 8 years on the BM
register before I get 'retired'.
I've spent too many weeks on holiday in the UK (cumulative) over the
last few years and the Canadian Blood Service is worried about BSE!
Well, you will go and hang out with all those mad cows and Englishmen!!
Furthermore, I had cancer 12 years ago so I'm disqualified twice.
It's pretty hard *not* to find someone who hasn't had some form of cancer
or another.
Not too sure what the regs are over here as to that regards, will have to
ask them next time I'm in the chair.
