Disclaimer: If this is TMI, please don't read...
At 10:30 this morning I was in the dentist chair beginning a nearly four
hour session of removing all my teeth and placing the temporary dentures.
I had previously been lulled into an "I don't care what you do" feeling by
a heavy dose of Halcion. That, along with significant local sedation made
the entire procedure completely painless.
I already had a significant number of broken teeth, but as the work
proceeded, most of my remaining whole teeth broke as they were being
extracted. Dr. Jeong, a tiny but very skillful dentist/oral surgeon is
truly amazing, and was completely nonplused by this turn of events.
When all the work was completed and the dentures put in place, I had no
pain and I'm still pain free hours later, although I have to admit to some
soreness, which is certainly to be expected. I go back tomorrow for an
initial followup to check on the healing process, and then after that only
as needed for adjustments.
I am truly amazed at how good the temporary dentures look. They look at
least as good as my original teeth before I had problems. (There were four
tooth colors to choose from and a standard color for the gum tissue.) In
six months or so, I will get my permanent set of dentures, and they should
look spectacular, as each tooth may be selected from twenty-four variations
of color, brightness, and translucensy. as well as shape and size. The gum
tissue is custom blended based on existing live tissue.
Sorry for so much detailed personal information, but I'm really excited
about this and just had to share...
Wayne, I'm glad you're happy so far. You certainly made a radical choice, so you BETTER be happy because it can't be reversed. LOL :))
As you can tell, many peoples choices would be different. But in the end it is our choice to be made and not anyone else's. Me for example, went through a year's worth of priming to get braces, which included surgery to repair my gums on all 4 quadrants which was very painful but worth it. I don't know too many other people that I know who would go through that for braces at 47 years old, but I did what I wanted to do for me.
Good luck and hope you continue to have a quick painless recovery.
Cheryl
