I've lost about 1/2 my hair over the last couple of months. Do you (or
anyone else) lose hair when you lose a large amount of weight? I've
currently lost #35 since last June.

You seem to be losing it slowly enough that I wouldn't suspect the
weight loss as the culprit. I'd talk to your doctor.

At the time I was LCing my thyroid was rapidly going down hill. For me
though, it was after a hysterectomy and I was going through the
"change." Hands and lips were dry, feet (especially the heels) were
cracking. The top of my nose peeled during the winter as if I were
sunburned. I wore my hair pixie-cut short then so it's hard to tell how
much hair I was losing, but it was fairly thin. Sad thing was, even with
my tests showing I was rapidly losing thyroid levels, my doctors at that
time refused to supplement my levels even though I begged and kept
pointing out the numbers. They said they were still within the "norm".
Bull***. I went from a size 9 to size huge in one year. So I suffered
for quite awhile.

Now that I have a doctor that has me on thyroid meds, my hands aren't
dry, my feet are smooth -- and I have thicker, longer hair hanging in
wavy goodness past my shoulders! (I don't look like the "date" in our
rfc mugshot anymore). I haven't worn my hair long since I was in my
teens because it just never grew fast enough before. There's also that
little added benefit of weight loss with the right thyroid dosage
whether it's from the jump starting of the metabolism or the higher
energy levels.

Adding more thyroid has to be done slowly and monitored regularly. My
doctor has me going in for blood work at least once every two to three
months.

I vote Om should see her doctor as well. If she doesn't get what she
needs from this one, she should look around. An endocrinologist perhaps?

Ritchie _is_ an endocrinologist. I've been on Thyroid Armour now for
about 17 years.

Last time we tried to increase the dose, I ended up with a heart rate of
140 bpm.

That's why I'm now on beta blockers.

I have trouble keeping my T4 in normal range but if we increase the
dose, it increases my heart rate. :-(

I can't win.
