Re: Is it worth being here?

In lieu of reponding to every individual contributor to this thread, and
adding twice as much length, I want to thank all of you for your comments,
both positive and negative. It revealed a lot.

In every neighborhood, either where you live or in cyberspace, there are
usually some people we wish didn't live there. RFC is no exception. In
the neighborhoods we live in, we avoid those who are obnoxious, spiteful,
unbalanced, or those who we perceive dislike us for whatever reason.
Obviously, that should apply here, as well. Avoiding this in our
neighborhoods is often much easier than in a newsgroup. In both cases,
confrontation is seldom the solution.

Many have, at one time or another, said it takes a thick skin to survive in
a newsgroup. While there's no doubt about that, it also takes skill in the
use of filters and score files to make it a truly pleasant experience.

I have posted here and enjoyed this newsgroup for years, and I intend to
continue doing so. I'm sure that I'm a permanent resident in some kill
files, and frankly, I'm glad. Frankly, I wish I were in more of them. I
also know that others have alternatively put me in and taken me out of
their kill files. I'm not sure I really understand that, but it's
unimportant to me. I know that when someone joins others in my kill file,
they become permanent residents.

I know who my friends are here, and I'm pretty sure I know those who are
not. That's really all I need to know.

For those who objected to my sig, you'll notice that it's been permanently
replaced with one that seems especially fitting to this newgroup.
