I've heard of 'grackle' birds. They're not much different than
starlings, and they're the bane of neighborhoods should they decide to
roost in the trees overnight while migrating!
All of those ugly noisy black birds migrate through my neighborhood. I
like
bird watching, but when they're migrating through, you really need an
umbrella to walk outside if you know what I mean. It's gross.
Oh yeah - the grackels/starlings are ugly and very bothersome & more!!!
BTDT! But, it "is" possible to keep those pesky starlings and grackles
away from roosting in neighborhood trees. However, it takes
perserverance (sp?) and lot of work. Their "leavings" under the
roosting trees were nearly as bad as an inch of snowfall - okay - not
quite, but close enough!
At sunset when they (the Birds) come in to roost -- and timing is
critical here -- someone should be around with any method of nasty loud
noisemaking when the Birds come to roost. I noticed this past fall that
no grackles/starlings came to roost by my house as they had previous
years - woohoo! I wonder if it was due to diligence with two old
vehicle license plates and clashing them together to make a horrible
noise just as they (the Birds) came in to settle on the roosting trees'
limbs (?). Yeah, my neighbors probably thought I was crazy - but hey -
they benefitted too <G>. Fall migration was the worst time. Never had
a problem with Spring migration.

Lots of people were using propane cannons, but neighbors got offended. No
matter what you use, someone will complain.
