The "hanging" might have been because of the memory leak, which has been fixed (or vastly improved). That, indeed, kept me from using the old FF more.
I've used FF from the gitgo and haven't had a problem with it.
I am also going to try Seamonkey. And Penelope (for email).
I am working up a bit of interest in Ubuntu too. I am not convinced a total nongeek like me could use such a thing though, and it's too late for the computer that is being set up for me.
