My veggie garden is finally all planted, and just in time as heavy
thunderstorms are forcast for tomorrow.
Lets see if I can remember it all...
Cukes, long green and kirbys
Tomatoes, four kinds; beefsteak, roma, cherry, big boy
Lettuce; about six kinds including orientals
Cabbage; green, red, bok choy
Peppers; 2X bell, jalapeno
Eggplant, long Japanese style/ichiban
Summer squash; zukes and yellow crook neck
Winter squash; acorn and butternut
Green beans
Okra
Sugar peas
Snow peas
Florence Fennel
My blueberries are doing well
I'm sure I forgot some.
I've been busy mowing, of course.
And I planted two Colorado spruce...

Yes, there really is a "Fat Albert" Colorado spruce.

I have quite a few special plants from Iseli.
Those spruce don't look very big but each weighed well over 100
pounds... and I dug some huge holes... I had aches in places I didn't
know I have places.

Beautiful, Sheldon. Will you be putting lights on those spruce during the holidays?
Sorry, it's something I just love!
The Fat Albert is about 50 feet in from the road, I planted it in
front specifically for holiday decorating... I can see it from my
living room window and while sitting up in bed. The Fat Albert is a
graft, which ensures perfect form and color. The other spruce is
planted in back, I can see it from my office
What kind of green beans did you plant?
Kentucky Wonder bush style.... they are very prolific, I still have
some in the freezer from last year so I planted less this time. Last
year I was harvesting about ten pounds a day for over a month, I had
to give most away. I've planted pole beans in the past but those tend
to shade the other plants. I have plenty of space so I try not to
plant tall growing varieties... my garden is 50' X 50', really too
large so I already devoted a third to blueberry bushes... this will be
their second year and it already looks like there'll be a bumper
crop. Even last year I was able to pick about a pint a day. No
blueberries are as good as fresh picked by hand... the ones in the
stores and even farm stands are picked by machine, many are not
properly mature. When picking by hand I harvest twice a day, I tickle
the clusters and only those perfectly ripe fall into my hand...
gorgeous huge berries, each about the size of a nickle and ripened to
sweet perfection... many never make it to my kitchen. Growing
blueberries is well worth the time and space, and you must use netting
or the birds will get every one.
