Don't they still sell Accent for small time users of MSG?

Yup! I can see that one too, but like so many other things, tends to have a
very high markup in price.

at an asian market you will pay less for a pound than the two oz.
canister of accent. as far as i know, the stuff lasts forever if you
keep it dry.

So does salt, but nobody wants to store a lifetime supply.

Why does everyone have such a compulsion to exaggerate... a pound of
msg is nowhere near a lifetime supply, and neither is a pound of
salt... unless you don't plan to live more than like two years or you
don't cook very much... but you don't need to, the average person in
the US easily consumes a pound of added msg each year in the typical
American diet... I don't even want to guess how much added salt, but
I'd bet more than five pounds a year... this is a fast food condiment
rich country... salt with fat, fat with salt, cheese with everything.
I don't eat fast food, in fact I no longer eat out very often... no
restaurant in upstate NY serves food worth eating. I cook most
everything from scratch, so I know exactly what/whose in it, and I
tend to cook double, even triple amounts, so I can freeze fully cooked
meals for later (I use my freezer mostly for already prepared foods,
that's the only way a freezer can operate efficiently, uncooked food
takes too much space), and still I save no money, it's strictly
convenience... a fancy schmancy fridge/freezer is pure luxuary, no one
needs one any more than anyone needs a boat. So if I cook stew I'll
fill an 8qt pot, I will add two scant teaspoons of msg and omit the 2
tablespoons of kosher salt altogether. Salt is an appetite increaser,
all aspects of the food industry knows this and adds excess salt just
to get folks to eat more, same reason gin mills give out free salty
snacks and keep you waiting at the bar for your table, you'll drink
more and then you'll order more food too, because of the salt... btw,
any restaurant that takes your dessert order before you've even eaten
is a rip off... most folks won't want dessert after they've eaten, but
desserts pay the cook's salary. Too much salt in the diet is the main
reason so many Americans are obese... the more salty food they eat the
more they crave more salty/saltier food, it's that simple, a viscious
cycle, it's the salt syndrome. It takes ten times more salt as msg to
enhance flavor, and msg is actually an appetite supressor.... that's
why Chinese restaurant food seems so filling... folks save their
appetite all day for a Chinese restaurant meal but then there's enough
msg in that small bowl of wonton soup starter, and then that egg roll
that the appetite is essentially sated... that's why they don't need
to give very large portions and still there's plenty to take home. I
like msg, I find it makes food satisfying that I don't eat nearly so
large portions as I do with salty foods... msg also fools the mouth
feel to make you think those veggies contain butter and salt when they
don't... a scant pinch of msg in the mashed spuds and you can omit the
butter and salt, sprinkle pepper and parsley, and eat twice as much
guilt free.

I don't consider a pound package of msg a lot, typically lasts me
about two years. I know I can buy Accent at any stupidmarket but why
should I pay like $16 a pound just for that red cannister... I mean am
I the only one here who looks to pay less. And I really don't want
to buy frequently used items in such small amounts that I need to
remember to buy more every two months. And msg needs no special
storage nor does it take much space... if I buy it in one of those
plastic bottles I'd transfer it to a zip-loc anyway and only fill my
small shaker. What started this all was that it was time to place an
order for replenishing my Penzeys products and upon compiling my list
discovered that they no longer have msg. I always phone my orders in
so I will ask why (tomorrow), plus I have a question about the pricing
on their dehy bell peppers; all the prices were always the same
regarding color and quantity, so why are they charging a dollar less
for the pound size of red and why the different prices for the smaller
sizes... makes no sense unless it's typos. And now that I checked
their on line pricing is different from their catalog pricing, weird.

Everyone has different desires... some drink many cups of coffee a
day, for some one or two cups a day is plenty and others never drink
coffee.... I know people for who two hundred tea bags a month is not
enough, for me two tea bags is a two lifetime supply. Some people
consume honey each year by the five pound jar, most folks in the US
keep no honey in their cupboard... most people in the US keep no msg
either, perhaps you should learn to cook with msg before spouting
off. I bet you're one with no honey but has a deluge of vinegar. hehe
