Very occasionally, they make a "show cake". Those are not designed
for eating at all, being made of styrofoam or the like. Most of the
time, it's just a cake. Whether it's very tasty or not is another
question. Fondant in general isn't good.

You don't watch enough :). They have at least one guy who does nothing
but bake cakes. He has numerous ovens in the back. Plus they are
frequently shown carving the cakes to shape, and throwing away lots of
trimmings (I imagine any thrill of eating that left a long time ago for
most of them).
