Sometimes in February Steven and I will host a Blah Party.  The holidays
are over, it's usually cold and nasty outsided and it'll be weeks still
until spring.  So some years we throw what we call a Blah Party (not to
be confused with the UK political forum :)  We usually do a big winter
BBQ outside. We decided to do it this year. When we do it we invite
friends and all the neighbors. It's usually a big crowd.  I'm open to any
suggestions. We haven't had a big party in a long, long time. Here is
what I'm thinking:

Smoked brisket
Grilled chicken
Pulled pork tostadas and/or burritos
Barb's corn relish (recipe posted here a long time ago)
Deviled egg potato salad
Refried pinto beans
Baked beans? Maybe too many beans
Oil and vinegar cole slaw
Nopales salad (easy, yummy and recipe below)
White chili

For the kiddies we'll have burgers and dogs for the ones that don't like
any of the other stuff.

For knoshing:

Stuffed black olives
Garlic and jalapeno stuffed olives
Guac, salsa and chips
Peanuts in the shell
Potato chips/dip for the kids

Sara and Ginger will do the desserts.

Drinks:
Beer, margeuritas, soft drinks

Nopales Salad - unknown attribution

Ingredients:

1 kilo (2.2 lbs.) of cactus (nopal) paddles
1 onion - halved
4 C. water
2 Tbsp. salt
2 large tomatoes - chopped
1 large onion - chopped
4 green chiles - chopped

How to Prepare:
If the nopales you buy do not already have the thorns removed, do so
carefully. I recommend using gloves and a potato peeler to do this.

Once you have removed all thorns, wash and chop the nopales, place in a
pan with water, halved onion and salt and bring to a boil. Simmer for 45
minutes.

Drain nopales and add remaining three ingredients. Taste for seasoning
and add additional salt if necessary.

It sounds like you have it well in hand. Your subject made me laugh,
though, because one of my sons has his cellphone "ringer" set to go
"Blah, blah, blah." Literally. When he told me to listen for his
phone and if it went, "Blah, blah, blah," I thought he meant if it
rang. Nope.
