It certainly is difficult for some, but others, no big deal. That
family with children can have an income of $20,000 or $200,000. It
also depends on the chosen lifestyle. Instead of a new Mercedes this
year, cut back and get a Saab instead. The low end people will suffer
more, of course and have tough choices to make. $250 a month for a
family of four is certainly on the frugal side.

I was thinking $250/month a bit on the frugal side myself.

I have compassion for some, but little more for contempt for others
with the same income. Depends on whether or not you were born with
the ability to do great things and just lazily wasted your life, of if
you are not equipped to do more than minimum wage toil.

I agree and I think Pete C. had a point about dropping some of the things
that "nickle and dime" people to death. The rising costs don't affect
Steven and I much, but we do not live extravagant lifestyles either. We
bought a new car last year but paid cash for it. We bought a Nissan
instead of the BMW X5 that I wanted. First car we've bought in 8 years.

If anything we're "pet poor" these days with the cost of animal food, vet
bills and my horse is real expensive :) I'm just happy we are able to
afford it.

One couple I know is having some severe problems lately but they have a
BMW, Escalade and a big house out west with no furniture in it. I guess
they are payment poor and the interest on their credit card bills has got
to be killing them. I don't empathize much with them.

They probably
can't even sell their house to get out from under it with the way the
market is.

Probably can't sell it, but with some effort they could probably lease
it at an attractive rate to offset some of the mortgage cost.
