I was only a month out of high school and ruminating on the recent death
of Groucho Marx. Elvis's cold dead substance-addled has-been lardass
knocked Groucho's passing right off the map.
Well put.
"King"??? Rock'n Roll don't need no stinkin' king.
I would nominate Roy Orbisson to the title. Elvis was good, in some ways he
was a real innovator what with combining then new rock and roll with country
and most of all the rhythms and lyrics of black soul and R&B. At the time
it was considered to be quite scandalous, a white man singing, and dancing,
like a black man. But there were better, they just didn't have the same
flare for the gaudy.
