Jon Bon Jovi lives in my town. When Gore was running for
president, he held an event for him at his house. What they did
was shut down a major highway so the secret service entourage
could get Gore there safely and on time. People sat in traffic
for *hours* ... gee, cars idling, isn't that supposed to be good
for the ozone? How to win votes, arrange to shut down a major
commuter route during rush hour so people can't get home from
work. Good job.
Occurred to me that after that fiasco, people were seriously angry
and swearing they wouldn't vote for Gore after that. Could have
changed history if he hadn't pulled that stunt, considering how
close things turned out.
jesus, do you folks have a direct line to the republican national
committee, or what?
No such thing. In fact, the Republicans are a bunch of fools. Some of us can
think for ourselves, thank-you.
gore never said he invented the internet,
Really. According to the transcript from CNN's Late Edition:
http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/stories/1999/03/09/president.2000/transcript.gore/
BLITZER: I want to get to some of the substance of domestic and
international issues in a minute, but let's just wrap up a little bit of the
politics right now. Why should Democrats, looking at the Democratic
nomination process, support you instead of Bill Bradley, a friend of yours,
a former colleague in the Senate? What do you have to bring to this that he
doesn't necessarily bring to this process?
GORE: Well, I will be offering -- I'll be offering my vision when my
campaign begins. And it will be comprehensive and sweeping. And I hope that
it will be compelling enough to draw people toward it. I feel that it will
be.
But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled
to every part of this country during the last six years. *During my service
in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the
Internet.* I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of
initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic
growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.
the internet.' he supported it in congress, and the spread of the
darpa network to civilian use. the 'inventing the internet' trope is
a right-wing tactic to promote the image of gore as a madman with
delusions of grandeur tinkering in the basement. see the quote is
posted upthread. if not for gore's involvement, it's likely you would
not be reading this now.
nor that he was the
inspiration for 'love story', or any of that crap. and this has all
been debunked many, many times.
Vigorous attempts have been made to debunk (aka, spin) the 'crap', but never
successfully.
you need to read more.
sorry, i don't take wolf blitzer as the gospel. he's certainly been
but the media (a.k.a. 'the liberal
media,' in some corners) has picked up this narrative and ran with it
because they disliked bill clinton, and by extension, al gore.
So, CNN and Wolf Blitzer are lying? The program never happened?
right all along on iraq, hasn't he?
if it ends up reducing carbon in the atmosphere, all to the good. ii don't think gore invented global warming to make a few bucks.
His company, Generation Investment Management is sure making money
hand-over-fist with the 'carbon credit' scam.
thought republicans were in favor of making money.
no, we can judge science based on peer-reviewed journals and the like,(incidentally, if you think it's easy to make an oscar-winning movie -
a documentary, no less - go ahead and knock yourself out.)
So, we can judge science content based on movies that win Oscars?
not 'scientists' paid by the oil companies. the science involved in
global warming is not in serious dispute. you might as well argue
about evolution, which some republicans can't deal with either.
sorry, folks, global warming is real.
That's not the issue.
if you object to him flying in
an airplane to spread the message,
You missed the point; I don't object to him flying in a plane. I object to
the hypocrisy of staging a multi-nation event that produced an extraordinary
carbon footprint whilst decrying large carbon footprints.
let's see - how would these events compare to a typical n.f.l. sunday
in the u.s.?
i agree, it's kind of silly to emphasize the 'carbon-neutral aspect,'
but if he doesn't rush limbaugh et al. jump on him and some people eat
it right up. 'ha-ha, liberals are so crazy!'
your pal,
blake
