It never occurred to me to feed the cat more than once a

It was the same with all my cats.

We leave dry food out for them too - but they won't touch Iams - LOL.
Whiskas or Friskies is fine.
But they also get wet food 3 times a day - they are gannets, what can
I say? But they are "active" cats. We live out in the boonies and they
like being outside in the day, so they get lots of exercise (or
should I say they can exercise if they want to).

This one, though, when I got her, she was starving, literally.
She would beg loudly and continually for food, even if she had
some in her dish. She was frantic that the food supply would
run out. I had to train her, if you beg you will not get fed. It
was a process to teach her she doesn't have to worry about food.

I can imagine.

Sometimes they come into the room while we are eating and give us
that "What about me, I haven't been fed since I was a kitten" look,

Heh.

but only if what we are eating takes their fancy... However, they
know they won't get any leftovers (if there are any) before we have
finished our meal. However, Sox will search out my packet of
'biltong' (similar to jerky) if I don't hide it away safely - he's
a true 'cat burglar' when it comes to that. ;)

What a brat! So funny. None of my pets were thieves, for whatever
reason. Your cats names still crack me up.

It cracks most people up LOL. Sox came first - he has white fur on his
paws - so the name was sort of a given. Then "the other cat" arrived
on our doorstep too. (He doesn't have white paws). He was also
starving (so I fed him) but he was very afraid of people - I suspect
he had been kicked or something elsewhere.. Anyway after a few weeks
when it looked like he was moving in we decided we would have to have
him "fixed". DH was on the way to our vet to have this done when it
suddenly occurred to him that we hadn't named the cat and our vet
would want a name. So he phones me and says "What are we going to
name this cat?" I said "No clue". So DH says "What about Shoes? - we
have Sox already". I fell around laughing and agreed - but the name
stuck. And our vet even smiled about it too :)

That's a great story! We have two tuxedos and a Meezer. The tuxedos are
true siblings and my Meezer found us as a starving, little scruff with
terrible ringworm. I leave food out for my critters all day, too, but I
always fill up the water bowls and the food bowls in the morning right
before I start my husband's breakfast (I don't eat breakfast), so I picked
the option "before we eat".
