We call it stone soup, after the story. Stone or Nail broth would

LOL I guess you weren't here when we did a "Stone Soup" thread a
couple or three years back. (Time flies when you're having fun!) I
started it off with the story about stone soup and then boiling
water and a stone and I threw in an onion, or something like that.

Jill

Hey - *I* donated the onion! There's gratitude for ya.

Hmm. I think the stone soup donations I'm thinking of started in the
early days of the RFC chatroom. I saw the Google archive from 2000
and it doesn't ring a bell - more like you, Dams, Nancy and me three
or four years ago?
Maybe with Ariane, Boli and Alan?

D.

Maybe the discussion started in the chat room. But I can tell you the idea
I had about Stone Soup (aside from the storybook tale) was in a totally
different forum, one that doesn't exist anymore. It wasn't a newsgroup but
it was a forum where we discussed food. I'd been around there since 1990 or
so; didn't even know this place existed until 1997 or 98 :)

I mentioned here on Jan 8, 2004, that a friend from college made
something she called garbage soup. At this point, I don't remember if
she used potato peelings or not. I will be seeing her on Memorial
Day, so if I remember - I'll ask.
