Anyone want to venture a guess as to what these are?
Really, really old pressure cookers.
Dangerous to use.
That was my first thought, Mark! Looks like cast iron pressure cookers.
The one on the right appears to have a "rocker mechanism" for releasing
steam pressure. Might be nice for display or remove the lids and grow some
plants in them.
Gee whiz, it wasn't supposed to be so easy! ;-)
I couldn't figure out what the first one (the larger one) was when I got it because it is missing the pressure valve that the second one has. I thought it was some kind of chemical processing retort and the hole in the top was to connect a pipe to it. The person who sold it to me had no idea what it was either.
The first one seemed to have some kind of whitish stain inside. Or so I thought. It was white porcelain enamel that had almost worn away. On the second one, the porcelain is more intact.
The large one is 5 gallons, while the small one is 2 gallons.
They would be dangerous to use. Cast iron is not a very good material to hold pressure. And of course they had no safety relief valves.
I'm just using them for display in my "museum".
I have some other tools that might be a bit harder to identify.
