What is more upsetting to me is the hundreds of billions of dollars we
have been lead to believe was invested in HLS specifically the safety
of our food supply. Now we find the FDA never implemented their
Security Programs and the FDA is reducing the numbers of Inspectors.
The plan is to ask the Agri-Biz guys to step up and inspect themselves!

Next thing you know they will be feeding the tainted pet food to the
hogs!
And after that, they'll say they are not recalling the resulting pork
products because they don't feel it is a problem:

FDA press release on 4/28/07:
--
At this time, we have no evidence of harm to humans associated with the
processed pork product, and therefore no recall of meat products
processed from these animals is being issued. Testing and the joint
investigation continue. If any evidence surfaces to indicate there is
harm to humans, the appropriate action will be taken.

The assessment that, if there were to be harm to human health, it would
be very low, is based on a number of factors, including the dilution of
the contaminating melamine and melamine-related compounds from the
original rice protein concentrate as it moves through the food system.
...
USDA and FDA continue to conduct a full, comprehensive examination to
protect the nation's food supply and will provide updates as new
information is confirmed.

Great. Because half the country is terminally stupid, they'll believe
this nonsense. What about harm that takes place over many years?

What harm that takes place over many years? This was a one-time event.
Melamine is relatively nontoxic in humans (they used to make dinnerware
out of it), a very low concentration was fed to the hogs, and I doubt that
it is stored in the meat anyway (I have no proof of that last point)

Longevity runs in my family, but I have no intention of living forever;
who'd want to? Eat the bacon and take your chances.

Bob

Hard to say what harm. If nobody's monitoring certain substances for long
term periods of time, than nobody sees anything. But, it probably doesn't
matter anyway, since it's almost impossible to say substance #1 harms people
without stopping them from also consuming 100 other things that confuse the
issue.
