Bob Pastorio means a lot to rfc. Food meant a lot to Bob. In my
meanderings through my wishful wanting of even more cookbooks, I came across
one called 'Being Dead is No Excuse' and it describes how to have and/or
host the ultimate 'dead spread'. My suggestion is this....we are spread
out around the USA, the Northern Hemisphere, the World, and as much as we
would like to do something, anything, for Bob, in reality there is no
practical way we can. Why not do a cook-along of comfort foods that we all
prepare and take to bereaved families in their time of need. We could post
what we are cooking, why it fits this catagory and why we consider it a
comfort-in-time-of-loss food. And since this is in honor of our dear friend
Bob, I say we post his blog and invite him for the ride, sort of like Tom
Sawyer attending his own funeral. How best can we show our foodie-friend
our love for him and what he has meant to each of us in his own special way,
and with his sense of humor, it might get a smile on his face knowing he
will vicariously be attending his own 'dead spread'...

What about it? My mom always said that she wanted flowers while she was
alive to enjoy them, when she was in hospice, I called all the relatives and
they sent so many flowers they put her in a private room to hold them all.
She was overwhelmed that so many people 'remembered' her. Let's do the same
for Bob, have a toast, have a nosh, and tell him we love him.

Wait a minute - I can't see clearly. Got something in my eye.
I think it's a fine idea, Ginny, and I'll bet Row-behr-to will, too.

I've looked at the other responses before posting this (THAT's
different) and I'd like to suggest that those who want to do, do. At
ones own convenience, rather than everybody on a specific day. When
there's a crisis at home and the friends and neighbors rally, I think
the food usually comes in as it does, not necessarily all at one time.
My pan of brownies was delivered by Fed Ex at the Pastorio household
late this morning The Kid has the instructions (and requisite jam) for
frosting them, or not.

I also sent all of the rfc posts (up to yesterday morning) in response
to Chris Marksberry's OP. I don't know that Carol's reading the
newsgroup and I thought it would be a nice read for the folks who are
gathered in their home. It was edited down to poster's name and date,
and remarks about Bob and his presence here.

I'm ready to offer my jamlady.eboard.com website to post the pictures
and our words. Unless someone's got a better idea, when you make your
dish, take a picture or two (not too many, please) and size them down to
no more than maybe 150kb (is that reasonable) and send them to me along
with the telling of whatever you're wanting to tell. Send them to my
name (without anything between my first and last names) at mac.com.
If somebody's got another or a better idea, that's okay, too.

<Barb wipes her eyes dry and hitches up her pants and sallies forth to
the supermarket for hotdish ingredients and a bottle of hootch.>
